LabLog 5.0 - Shock the Monkey: Sex Toy Electronics

Hello rubbers and donuteers,

On the heels of the fun and interactive average penis size blog entry, i feel that this one may be a little dry and tech'y. Necessary for the design process though, so let's get this puppy wired.

Since our design team does not include an electrical engineer, we're going to try and keep it simple enough so that i can do it myself.

Got your grounding pad?
Thank god we're making a male sex toy and not an iPod. . . so what've we got here?

Let's do an inventory.

Intra donut
-motor
-battery

Extra donut
-control
-charger
-a guy
-tawdry images

There you have a quick diagram of the basic electronics layout.

For now, we'll throw in a rechargeable 9V battery so we can just plug in an off-the-shelf charger. Then all we need are a few wires and we can spark this hands free automatic masturbator to life. No circuit board! Ya hoo!

Any Questions?

on the electronics side, what are the plans for connecting it to a computer, or other gadgetry?
would be interesting to have a male version of the iBuzz.

another think i'm curious about... what exactly will the control have? i would think that more than a simple on/off switch would be necessary for the best male sex toy ever.
unfortunately, i know little about electronics, so i cant tell you what would be effective. a simple potentiometer (variable resistor) to control speed would be a bare minimum.

also, unless it's necessary for weight balance, the battery, like mentioned, ought to go in the control. you may also want to watch out for voltages, or you might have toys blowing up and burning out on you.

As long as it isn't really cheap and prone to overheating like those Sony laptop batteries. (ie. "Are you masturbating?" "No" Liar liar, pants literally on fire!)

The real question is 'where should the battery be placed?'. If you're already running a control wire from the remote to the motor you might as well remove the battery from the donut and move it into the control - This would help to reduce the weight of the donut and potentially could increase battery life insofar as the motor would have to do less work to move the device.

If you were to do that then the wiring is very simple (inside the donut) - the control device would simply control the battery output voltage between some positive constant and some negative constant.

hey labrat,
would it be possible to make this thing so it connects to your computer? maybe make a little dashboard controller or something?? maybe sync it with videos. . .

ahhh. . . you're right on target young padewan. we were just talking about that actually. there's some interesting history in the sex toy industry around the idea - it's been dubbed "teledildonics" and i don't think anyone's tried to implement it in a male sex toy. i'm going to look into it a bit more and i'll probably do a supplement to this blog for it.

Safe Sex Plus had it, Interactive Fleshlight/Sinulate had it, Highjoy has it, Segment/Girls Rainbow has it, Virtual Sex machine has it, multiple smaller scale Japanese toys have it.

actually its been implemented for a long time...

hell, that sounds really cool! a male sex toy connected both my computer and my rod.

how long do you think that the battery will last? most men are pretty quick, but it would be a real shame to have a sex toy quit on you mid-rub, it would be best if it could last 30 minutes at least. say NO to rubbotus interruptus!

i hear that. to be honest, the battery's a bit of a placeholder for the moment. once we get this prototype together we'll be able to find out more about the power consumption requirements da bla da bla. . .

One other thing about the battery- The convenience of a rechargeable battery would be nice, but I would hate to have to recharge it in between uses. Any thoughts on standard or rechargeable?

That all depends on how much juice this will take for each use. If a pair of AAs will get 20 hours of use, I think it would be alright to just use normal batteries, and those who want convenience can buy a battery charger for their own use. Whereas if it were to last about 2 hours a pair, that would make a lot of people unhappy to have to fork over $6.00 for a couple of good sessions (even though that's way cheaper than what you pay for... alternative methods).

concerning the batteries, if it uses conventional ones you can just buy multiple sets of rechargeable conventional batteres (i have about a dozen Ni-Mh AAA batteries for my mp3 Player) and you could be charging the dead ones while using the live ones.
