LabLog 24 - The Verdict
Sat, 01/16/2010 - 00:17 — LabRat
It's been nearly two months since we announced a deadline of January 15th to make this thing happen - or put it to bed (maybe a confusing metaphor for a sex toy. . .).
So, what's the skinny?
When I deliver bad news I prefer to just come out with it - and follow with an explanation. So, the official announcement is that we can non longer, in good conscience, try the patience and support of this community. We have missed too many deadlines and made too many broken promises. We fully understand that some of our long-time followers have become frustrated. Therefore, we will continue development in private and no longer cover it on this site until we have a product to sell.
Why?
First, you need to realize that when we started this project it was just a few friends wanting to pursue an idea - with nothing more than their expertise to provide. We underestimated the difficulty in trying to do something like this while holding a full-time job at the same time. On top of that, designing a good male sex toy proved to be more challenging, and time-consuming, than any product I've worked on.
What's next?
Over the last couple of months, I feel that some of the major design hurdles have been overcome. I have no intention of letting this product die - and I will continue to work on it. However, this work will be done in private and no longer discussed on this, or any other, website.
What about the site?
The site will remain alive, but will be focused on the toy talk section. The blogging will be centered on sex toys in general - and related topics. It will also provide a platform for us and you, the community, to talk about and review other sex toy products of interest. Lastly, it's where we'll make the glorious announcement if & when Rubbot goes to production.

As always, we invite your comments.
I realize that many of you will be upset, but please try to keep your comments civil and contructive. You can take some small consolation in my determination to see this thing through - it's just a question of time.
As usual, we try to avoid censoring comments - unless they are seen as senselessly malicious (or gratuitous link spam).

I would like to make a comment. There have been multiple attempts at making a male sextoy that either moves (rubbot + many more) or uses friction (realtouch etc.) to simulate a movement up and down. This has never been particulary successful.
I think one answer may be found in making something that only feels like it moves up and down. Take your "pleasure knob" idea that you have at the moment, what if there was something like two pleasureknobs for every inch of a continous tube. Then one could switch theese on and off in varying manner, and maybe there could be pleasureknobs on different sides to.
I think the quest for a functioning male sextoy has not been sufficiently explored, and often I think that the wide audience in terms of size, preference etc,. can be hard to get right. I think this is especially true for anything that is supposed to move.
For anyone interested, I think that if one thinks in vibrating arrays or servo arrays, a lot more could be accomplished, with a greater deal of success. Although I do understand the difficulty that any task like this poses, I would believe, from an engineering standpoint, that it would be easier to solve on an industrial level.
I'm totally with you. In fact, I have a very similar idea in my sketchbook. If it worked, you'd have an infinite choice of patterns - like the massaging chairs. It could also be compact and clean (aesthetically).
Of course, like any idea, it has it's own set of complications. The tricky part with this one is focusing the vibration. Vibration tends to propagate and rattle the whole damn thing - you can see that in female sex toys. The second barrier is that you'd require quite a few individual motors to make it happen.
Thanks robh3!

a bit dissapointed, but still hoping to buy one in the near future.
Would it be possible to contact all people here by email when the product is finished.
It probably will take a long time, and many of us shall not check this site weekly anymore.
I just don't want to miss out on it when it is finished
Thanks 4 all the effort you put into this.
I'm glad you are still working on it and I hope it will become a reality.
Im pretty depressed about this...i guess i'll have to buy my girlfriend a shake-weight....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq9993iJlYU
This doesn't come as a surprise at all (and I mean that with no sarcasm whatsoever). I've been following this blog for a long time and I've enjoyed following your progress. But the bottom line is this: The product will get done when it gets done and there's no way you can appease a community of raging dongs hanging on your every word;) I think it's a phenomenal idea, I hope my contributions to this site have helped, and I wish you the best.
labRat,
I was wondering what kind of design problems youre having to make you want to stop keeping up with this website? It looks as though you have a pretty viable design based off your previous logs..
Thanks openstar; it's really more to do with time.
The best way i can explain it is; in designing, say, a watermelon catapult - it would be very easy to calculate all the forces and reactions and make a design on paper that would probably work right out of the gate.
A male sex toy (even more-so than a female sex toy), is quite complicated. On paper, an idea may seem pretty good but then you prototype it and it totally sucks. So the project has been very prototype intensive and thus very time-consuming.
I truly think it will get done - we just decided it's not fair to keep saying, "next month, next month. . . " on the site anymore. Check back every so often - and thanks for the positive thoughts!

Sure it was exciting to hear that such a great piece of modern science was going towards the production of "The best ever male masturbation toy". This all seemed to good to be true. I've had a few designs in my head for quite a few years and would love to quit my jobs and pursue the production of these visions but somehow the mortgage and kids college seem to take priority. So i don't know how you find time to work a regular job and have the drive to pursue your visions of "The best ever male masturbation toy" Kudos to you as for the poor saps like me that don't have the time or drive to pursue our dreams but have time to relieve sexual tensions. . . Thanks W.Michigan J/O
good luck with the ongoing work and hope to hear something in the future.
Sorry to hear you didn't meet your deadline, but at least you were gracious enough to notify the community. I've watched so many toys go under without a word from the creators, so it's at least nice to have a bit of closure, though I can't understand why anyone would be getting angry with you. Such is the way of the internet, though.
Anyways, glad you're keeping the toy blog around, we need more of those in the community. And keep in touch, I'm happy to give you guys more press if you decide to start up again.

I appreciate your honesty and your efforts. I am upset to hear that there isn't a product to go public or any testing to be done on this date, but I totally understand. We all have families that we have to provide for with our jobs, as I am sure you do. I wish some of the posters would be a bit more understanding of your situation. You put forth the effort to to at least try and provide a quality product for male self satisfaction, which none of us have and we appreciate it. I for one applaud your efforts and will continue to check this site in hopes that you will complete the Rubbot or offer more testing, which I will be more than happy to participate in. Thank you LabRat.
When I logged on today it told me Ive been a member for 2 years, yet Im sure this is my first post. Im glad you gave an update on your situation, I was not sure you would post after the january 15 deadline
. Like before I will continue to wait patiently, and hopefully you guys will make this great product soon. My only regret is I wasnt chosen for the beta testing, but kudos to those who got the chance. Best of luck to you guys.
Sorry to hear the news, but it's good to know that you're prioritise what matters most at the moment (i.e. the full time job). It's been an enjoyable blog to follow, so with that I wish you all the best for the future, and if/when a product comes to surface, then I'll be more than happy to give my support.
thanks lukahn.
