LabLog 20b - Mini Gamma Update

This is in direct response to smittyinky's friendly nudge ;)
Just the other day, in fact, we completed testing on the first Gamma unit.
This is just a quick peeking through the door to let you guys know what's up.
My favorite comment on the new prototypes was, "wow, it's come a long way".
On the technical side, most of the improvements worked as planned. However, this was our first attempt at the new vibration "intensity knub" and we didn't think that it was intense enough. So we made some adjustments and we're running another prototype.
To be honest, it may take one more round of prototyping after this one - to get it dialed. If that goes as planned, though, I think we'll be off to the races!

I've said it multiple times. When this product closes in on finalization, someone is going to throw about a gazillion dollars on them, even in the financial crisis.
Do you think that this product is one that is heavily affected by the financial crisis ? NO, it's like selling water in africa, -people will buy even if they don't have any money.
My bet goes to vivid entertainment or interactive life forms, -they'll hook it up to some video-on-demand-pay-per-minute and try to make a fortune on the thing.
If someone has not bought theese guys, then my bet is that they've broken some patents, and have been forced to quit the whole project due to legal issues.
Some people in a garage, making a successful product ? Not today, not in this world.

if thats the case i say make your money with the big companys you've earned it... but once it doesnt belong to our beloved labrat i would feel no guilt modding the rubbot.

Of course, the fact that they don't update when they say they want to update and so on, does raise questions about what kind of company this is. How well preserved are the names of the beta-testers involved here ? How is their data stored ? Who has access to it, what laws are protecting them and so forth. It takes capital to make a project like this secure and within good conduct, and not updating this page might hint as to how professional theese guys are. Maybe they haven't done any project at this "global" scale at all.
true... but they seem to be financing this project alone...also they are working on this site as well as their hardware... maybe they need to get a friend to help with PR stuff, you cant do it all.
As far as I know no beta units were sent to Germany,
and there haven't been a site update for a long time.
I doubt that this will ever come to release,
and it's a pity that only US citizens seem to have received a beta unit.

I am in the US and still have not gotten a beta unit..
Beta testing, by it's nature, is only a small percentage of the potential end-users. It's a bit of a lottery. For instance, do you know anyone who beta-tested the iPhone or the G-Phone before it's initial release? Probably not, but certainly they had a couple hundred people test drive it before manufacturing a few million of them.
Of course it's worthwhile to sign up to beta test, but keep in mind that the odds are a bit long.

it's not a "citizen" thing. while in development, it's just easier to keep it local. both for shipping and communication. as things ramp up, we want to include anyone - regardless of their location.

Shipping electronic devices of any kind overseas has gotten more cumbersome than it's worth especially for a beta test. Don't blame you a bit for "localizing" the test pool.

As I said before, the rubbot team is bound to recive heavy pounding from the porn industry to merge with them somehow. Just like Nike shoes are pirated, porn is pirated. Result ? Apple and Nike go together and make some DRM-shoes where there is an apple chip inside the shoe linked to apple gear. Very difficult to pirate. The porn industry has to invent something that cannot be pirated. If the rubbot gets a chip that requires you to pay per minute of use, the porn industry wins. The realtouch team already has this agreement, but that project to is stalled. Why you ask ? Because there is a lot of money and there are a lot of business people involved that still wants to be in charge. If rubbot has not been offered $$$ it would be amazing. Either their patents are bought, or the whole project is bought by Vivid or someone similar.
have any idea what the shipping on that is... not to mention the time it would take to get to you and get a response from you and then return shipping... besides germany is known for its red light districts anyway...
How about an update, it looks like you are making progress, however its been a while. Is it possible to get another directors cut or just another progress update? When is the second round of testing due to start? Anything to keep us amused?

Great to see more updates. The intensity knub sounds great, but from what I've seen the knub looks a little on the small side. Have you guys considered using a wider knub, or something more "finger bone" shaped. I've found that something that cradles, rather than jabs is more comfortable.
ya - actually the previous design had a broad platform for vibration. we found that using a smaller, more focused, vibration it was much more intense. . . and well, better

Sounds Like things are getting close to being put into production. Any guess as to when that might happen like 6 months to a year down the road. What Size Batteries Should I stock up on? Costco has good buy on large Quanity of batteries. May have to get two packages.

If you wan't to improve the efficiency of the vibrating knub, you have to work with a system that has the same "stroke length" for the vibrations, like a piston-like vibrator, and not weight swinging. This type of construction is found in for example Braun shavers that have a rectangular head. Theese use an electric motor to drive a gear system that pushes the razor blades a spesific length back and forth. Just try opening it up and you will see how it is constructed.

If you Rubbot dudes haven't yet, you should look at the products offered by Tenga in Japan. I know they really dont have much in common with Rubbot at all, but they are already making male masturbation devices that really arent all that dirty or smutty which seems to be one of your goals.
