LabLog 19 - Shhhh. . .

One of Rubbot's prime mandates is to be fun and light-hearted, where male sex toys tend to be nasty and sleazy.

Everyone takes care of business from time to time so there shouldn't be any stigma around it right?

However, you probably don't want to make a public announcement ;)

Part of the feedback from beta testing, was about excessive noise. We've spent a few days trying to reel that in.

First, we found some kick-ass foam to dampen the impact of the weights. It's super dense and recovers in a fraction of a second.

The we recorded Rubbot running with a variety of noise-reducing modifications. Surprisingly, the "improvements" actually made the noise worse!?

{{ listen here }}

We then slowed down the recordings to better analyze and try to locate the source of the noise.

If you listen to the recording (right) it sounds like a heartbeat. The bumps come in pairs - which pointed directly toward one of the linkages that I would have never otherwise even thought about!

Easy to fix - problem solved!

More soon,
-labRat

A competitor who beat rubbot to the finishing line. Looks complex and not so durable, but it might be ...

the treadmill design...i couldnt tell if it had anything on the sides (other than a burning hot piece of metal) having a crooked penis means this design may be painfull.

That product looks like trash. The concept intrigues. The execution sucks. I'll hold out for a rubbot.

God, that thing looks enormous...the guy props it on his leg when he has it. I bet it would either rip your penis off or fall to the ground if he didn't prop it up.

And in the FAQ is says you HAVE to purchase movies to use with it. It does not work on its own. I don't want to have to pay everytime I use it.

Well any Updates? Me and the Wife are awaiting

sorry for the pause - we'll post some of the latest developments soon!

oh boy! i'm so excited about this sex toy. will there be another round of testing?

hey guys, how does it sound now? was it as easy to fix as you thought? I'm watching your site daily...im very hopeful!

we actually found some new ways to further reduce noise - with different insert/compression styles for grasping and grabbing.

Thanks for the update! I almost forgot about this site....

Glad to hear that the noise issue is taken care of. Sure hope to be involved in the next round of testing!!!

Noise reduction is all well and good, but too much foam and noise blocking padding might also block out some of the sensation. Personally I would rather wait for an "All-Clear" situation before using the Rubbot than to have to use it for hours because I don't feel anything.

I really hope it becomes quiet enought be be masked by the sound of a TV that would be ideal. You also have to think about noise at different speeds. Anyone know what the final deal is on batteries for this magical device? Imagine having to plug into a wall Smiling B==D{O}----=["]

Nice to hear from you guys again, problems being solved are always a nice thing to hear...
Whats next on your todo list, and can we help by thinking about it too?

I think it's really awesome you guys are ACTUALLY taking noise into consideration. Well done for solving this age old sex toy problem!

How did you end up fixing the linkages?

it will be pretty simple actually - just a matter of tightening up the fit. until we move to high volume injection molded parts, the tolerances are all pretty loose - and so are the fits.

Interesting.

To tacostain.

I see what you did there you sly dog! On the other hand, eww gross. It's on the other hand now!

One cannot stress it enough when it comes to noise : all parts must be precisly made and have a snug fit, and I'm talking about the internal mechanics here. If you have say an engine that is a tiny bit loose, the tiny wiggle will be planted onto the rest of the mechanics.

If you know industrial design, it is really quite simple, you must look into where in the internals the forces are going. The joint where the weight arms are attached to the chassis for example, are taking a lot of load, so they require an extra snug fit.

While the rubbot appears to be a simple construction on paper, my judgement is that it is actually going to be hard to make it reliable over long time. There is something about the frequencies the rubbot has to work at, and the size of the motors.

I hope you guys have investigated the types of motors that go into the rubbot. Are they brush or non-brush based for example ? Brush based motors would suggest a higher quality motor due to the low-frequency vibrations and so forth. What rpm levels are they specified to run at, and are they made for long time usage or not.

This is some puzzle, -good luck people !

Good stuf as always, and every little helps. It's good that you're listening this much to feedback and really making an effort to make this product the best of it's kind. Keep up the good work.

Good Job! Keep up the good work guys.

Cool to hear about the latest progress, thanks for the update!

Sounds like fun. Hope to get picked for beta two so I can make my own love noises, lol. Thanks for the info LabRat.

Glad to hear it was an easy fix & that things are cumming along..
